Utah/Idaho Disaster  Relief Communications Unit now have a core of licensed hams to train in disaster relief communications

On February 7, 2006   Ed Lewis, W4MDS, Beverly Lewis, Ed Cravey, KF4HPY, Ruth Jones, K4RHJ and myself traveled to Salmon, Idaho to teach a Technician License Class for the Utah/Idaho Baptist Disaster Relief Communications Unit which is currently being developed.  The class consisted of 18 students from the Salmon area and 3 that were from Salt Lake City, Utah who are involved in disaster relief, making a total class of 21 students.  18 of the total class are involved in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, the other 3 were members of the community who wanted to take advantage of the class.  Ages of the students ranged from 14 to 94.

The class curriculum consisted of  2 1/2 days of very intense classroom work covering all of the material necessary to pass the Technician Exam.  After a review on Saturday morning the exam was given to the class and 18 of the 21 students passed the exam.  The 94 year old gentleman went from being unlicensed to passing the General exam, including the Morse Code test.  He was first licensed in 1928 as W6HPS and let his license lapse in the early fifties.  Several other members of the community came in to take examinations for upgrades and other license classes.  In all we tested a total of 27 applicants for various licenses.

God never ceases to amaze me with the various opportunities he creates.  Not only does the Utah/Idaho Disaster  Relief Communications Unit now have a core of licensed hams to train in disaster relief communications, but a new door has been opened for ministry there in the community of Salmon.

We made several photos of the class and of the beautiful area of Salmon, Idaho.  Go to the following URL to view the photos.  http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AbMnDJo0atGIL

God not only created beautiful scenery in the Salmon area, he has also opened another door for ministry in this area.  TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!

In HIS Name,

Terry, W4TL
